SMEs and TAX & COMPLIANCE

Revenue Commissioners are increasing the use of data analytics, cross-checking technology, and targeted compliance reviews to identify risks across the SME sector. Areas under increased scrutiny include payroll, contractor arrangements, employee benefits, ERR filings and online income.

There has been a growing focus on businesses with compliance gaps, in particular sectors where cash payments, undeclared benefits and contractor misclassification are more common.

Our advice for SME owners and managers is to keep organised, maintain records accurately and address issues before they become problems is most important.

  • Keep your bookkeeping up to date
  • Ensure payroll and ERR filings are correct
  • Review contractor arrangements – Contractor or Employee (Check)
  • Keep backup documentation for ALL expenses and benefits
  • Pay heed to all Revenue letters or queries
  • Get advice early from your accountant/tax advisor.
