1. Warning to all PAYE payers to make a tax return for other income.
October is the month for Preliminary Tax payments. The Revenue is drawing attention to the fact that where taxpayers have earned additional / other income from other sources, they will need to include details of this income in their PAYE income tax return. Additional income can include income earned through casual or seasonal work, rental income or income from other sources which has not been taxed through the PAYE system. It may also include certain taxable payments received from the Department of Social Protection.
A preliminary end of year statement (PEOYS) is available to all PAYE taxpayers in myAccount and indicates when an individual’s provisional tax position is balanced, or if there is a potential over or under payment.
2. Protect your business from SMS (text messages) scams
Scammers are impersonating trusted brands like Revenue and Social Welfare using fake SMS sender IDs. Revenue has issued a new alert about fraudulent emails, text messages, and phone calls claiming to be from Revenue.
These scammers often ask taxpayers for personal details, credit/debit card information, or promise a tax refund. Revenue confirms that such communications are not genuine and did not come from them.
3. Commercial debit cards no longer accepted by Revenue for payments.
Commercial debit cards are no longer accepted for payment of tax by Revenue. This follows on from Revenue ceasing to accept commercial credit cards from October 2023.
